FES-AU conducted the 7th Edition of the Continental Simulation of the African Union (2026 E-Model AU) in partnership with the African Union Commission through its Women, Gender and Youth Directorate

During the two days of the simulation, delegates and immersed themselves in the various scenarios and challenges of Africa’s most pressing issues simulating first the AU Peace and Security Council under the theme “Enhanced Synergy between the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA): Embedding Democratic Governance at the Centre of APSA for Structural Conflict Prevention”, second the Special Technical Committee for Justice and the Legal Council under the theme “Harmonization and development of legal and normative frameworks that underpin Africa’s integration, governance, and socio-economic development agenda (the African Continental Free Trade Area -AfCFTA, Agenda 2063, and the rule of law architecture of the African Union)” and third the Specialized Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment (STC-ARDWE) under the topic “Implementing the Soil Health Initiative for Africa (SIA) and Accelerating Fertilizer Strategies, Food Security, and Youth Employment”. 

Model Resolutions stressed the need to strengthen the integration of democratic governance indicators into the Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) through; the systematic monitoring of constitutional governance, electoral integrity, respect for human rights, corruption, rule of law and public accountability indicators; the development of integrated governance-risk assessment reports to support timely preventive action by the Peace and Security Council; enhanced information-sharing between the Continental Early Warning System, the African Governance Platform and Regional Early Warning Mechanisms. 

Model resolutions also urged Member States to address the structural and socio-economic drivers of instability by: promoting inclusive economic growth and employment opportunities, particularly for young people; improving equitable access to quality education, healthcare, water, sanitation and other essential public services; strengthening democratic institutions, anti-corruption bodies and transparent public financial management systems and integrating climate resilience, food security and sustainable natural resource management into national peacebuilding strategies. Suggestions were also made about starting an annual African Legal Forum to review progress, exchange best practices, and identify emerging legal challenges affecting continental integration as well as strengthening cooperation among Member States through regular dialogue between Ministries of Justice, judicial institutions, and legal experts to promote the harmonization of legal and regulatory frameworks.
